Recently, a group of children and filmmakers visited the Podbrezová Steel Mill. In the mill, they filmed an educational show called The Story of the River. This series aims to engage young people by combining science and adventure to spark an interest in education.
“It is important for us that children are curious and interested in the world around them. We are surprised by how receptive most of them are. These children are between ten and thirteen years old. However, the TV program is also watched by adults, and its viewership is very good,” said Mrs Kristína Saganová, producer at Partizanfilm, which is creating the miniseries.
Recycling as a Positive Example in Practice
The visit of the children and filmmakers to our steel mill was a journey of discovery from the start. The young researchers were extremely curious and enjoyed learning about the operations at the metallurgical plant in Horehronie as soon as they stepped into the factory. However, before diving into their exploration, they had to familiarize themselves with the safety protocols in the area and then learned about everything that interested them.
They visited the scrap yard and the steel mill, which is the heart of the steelworks. Our quality management specialists at the steel mill patiently explained everything to the children, answering many questions, some of which were quite challenging.
“Železiarne Podbrezová caught our attention primarily because of its approach to recycling steel scrap. This is something we encounter in everyday life, and it’s important to know that a completely new product can be made from old iron. This raw material can be recycled indefinitely and doesn’t have to end up in nature or in a river. In our series, we also aim to highlight positive examples of environmental protection practices, which Železiarne Podbrezová certainly demonstrates. We are glad we had the opportunity to film here,” continued Mrs Saganová.
The visit to the steelworks was a fascinating experience for the children, who learned important lessons about recycling and environmental protection. The episode of The Story of the Hron River featuring this trip will air in the fall.
